The word Mandala is a Sanskrit word loosely translated to mean “circle” but its meaning is far greater than a simple shape. It represents “wholeness” and like other sacred “wheels” can be seen to symbolically (and in some forms literally) contain all of creation. We believe The Mandala is the perfect symbol for the Center and for the land it sits on. The energy of this land “pulls together”, “aligns”, and “brings into focus” that which is pulled apart. It moves us towards wholeness and unity while celebrating the diversity of our physical world. Visit The Mandala page to read more about Mandalas.

We are located in Des Moines, New Mexico. We are 35 miles east of Raton NM, on highway 87/64 at mile marker 383. The Mandala Center is located in the stunningly beautiful and unique high desert plains of Northeastern New Mexico centrally located between major cities such as Santa Fe NM, Amarillo TX, and Colorado Springs Colorado. We are in the upper eastern corner of the state very close to both the Colorado and Texas borders.
We are situated on the slopes of the Sierra Grande Mountain with sweeping and expansive views of the desert plains and the volcanic mountains that abound here. The rural area and quiet environment lends itself to times of rest and contemplation. We are in the upper eastern corner of the state very close to both the Colorado and Texas borders.
The major airports in Albuquerque, NM, Amarillo Texas, and Colorado Springs, CO are all approximately 2.5 to3 hours drive to the center. Those who fly into Colorado will find a very scenic drive down through the mountains at the Raton pass just beyond Trinidad, with the Rocky Mountains in the rear view mirror. Whatever airport you come from, the drive is a wonderful time of pilgrimage to unwind, center, and mentally prepare for your retreat experience as you drive ever deeper into the beauty of our area.

Yes, children and teens are very welcome here. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and proper supervision is required.
We know pets, especially dogs and cats, are sometimes just like family members but we are unable to allow pets here at The Mandala Center. Pets can pose liabilities (bites, fleas, noise, some people are afraid of animals, etc) and can contribute to allergy issues. We try to keep our Center rooms as scent and allergen free as we can. Bedrooms are carpeted, some have oriental rugs, and clean up after pets is something we are unable to do at this time. We want everyone here to have a restful retreat and sharing space means sometimes limiting options.
Due to the nature of our retreat center it is impossible to list all combinations of possible event descriptions and their associated costs. If you wish to come to The Mandala Center or you have a group you wish to bring please contact us to discuss your special needs. Please visit our Fees page for more information.

There is no place else exactly like it in the world. It is a place of manifested vision - a place of mindful attention to the human journey we all share. People travel here and often say they felt "called" to come. There is a sense of peace and healing here. We promote the mindful exploration of the deeper reaches of mind, body, and spirit. We "hold space" for you to journey within and enrich and enliven your work, your passions, your dreams, your visions. We offer a sanctuary, unique in this world of hustle and bustle, that calls to the soul in the quiet and solitude; in the community and the thoughful conversations. We are remote - and there are no nearby malls or business centers. This is simply a place to travel to come home to yourself.
There are so many wonderful things about our center and our programs that we encourage you to take a little time and look through our website. Depending on your interests you can find information about our grounds, our programs, and the natural world surrounding us. Our "About Us" page and "What We Offer" pages provide submenus full of information and photos. Our blog also offers reflections on our work here, testimonials, photos and interviews with presenters for upcoming programs.
