As we did last year and the year before we went to our place of spiritual retreat, The Mandala Center, in northeastern New Mexico. Always new people to meet - people with fascinating life stores and intriguing views. Always new taste delights. The scene from our juniper clad hilltop set on the great plains brings peace to the soul, and the interior of the unique buildings invites the spirit to expand and soar while cradling the body in comfort and safety. – Beverley

We all carry with us a store of life’s hurts, betrayals, and traumas. Much of the impact of these experiences resides deeply in our nerves and cells of our bodies, to be relived repeatedly throughout our lives. Deep healing of depression, anxiety, trauma and pain, occurs only when we soften our self-aversion and begin to accept and relate wisely with deep compassion to that part of ourselves that need healing.Through the exploration of Contemplative, Taoist, and Buddhist teachings and healing practices you will finally be able to reach a kind of healing based on acceptance and compassion that is often overlooked. This depth of healing is integral to deepening the spiritual path.

We will waive the material fee for the first 10 registrations!
Whether you create a poem, a photograph, or a prayer, you will be inspired by the newly created paths at the Mandala Center. Using the paths as a metaphor for our own growth, we will spend the morning walking and observing, taking notes in our journals, enjoying the peace and beauty of our special corner of Northern New Mexico. In the fullness of summer, birds, wildflowers, expansive skies and breezes of change will nurture our individual natures.
Following a delicious lunch, we will hear what some of our most beloved nature writers – Henry David Thoreau, Annie Dillard, Gretel Ehrlich, Terry Tempest Williams – have found when they embraced stillness.
Then, using our observations, following our thoughts where they lead – to a memory, a dream, a hope, a loss, a discovery, a document of the day’s experience, or a feeling recalled from childhood summers - we will indulge in the luxury of time free from everyday responsibilities and create – in words or watercolors - as our hearts direct us.
Finally, within the circle of our day’s community, we will share our voices and celebrate what we have created. Come celebrate summer at the Mandala Center.
